Triplets of Belleville / Invisible Cities "Clarice" project

This project required us to create a building & an establishing shot for one of four existing IP's: Blade Runner, Lord of the Rings, Triplets of Belleville, or Boxtrolls, and then combine it with one of the cities described in the Invisible Cities novel by Italo Calvino.

In our case, our group chose Triplets of Belleville, a French animated film with a strong visual style that combined elements of the cities of Montreal, Paris, and New York, and the Invisible City we chose was Clarice, a city where all things are constantly repurposed and put to new use, and built on top of itself again and again.

The result is a design that fits within the style of the film, completed over the course of roughly two months. In order to get the style correct, I first did all of the perspective within Sketchbook Pro, then printed it out and traced over it in pen to get the wobbly lines the film is known for. After that, it was scanned back into Photoshop, where I coloured and rendered each building.
